Schrevenpark

An English landscape garden in the heart of Kiel

The Schrevenpark was laid out at the end of the 19th century as an English landscape garden and ranks among the oldest and most popular green spaces in the city. Winding paths, loose groups of trees and wide lawns follow the ideal of natural-looking garden design of that era. Over the decades the trees have matured into a stately old woodland that gives the park its special character. At its centre lies the large Schreven pond, which shapes the scene. To this day the park is a living piece of Kiel's city history and a cherished green meeting point for all generations.

Pond, lawns and a café

The heart of the park is the expansive Schreven pond, on whose bank a café invites you to linger. All around stretch wide lawns where people picnic, play and relax in summer — popular above all with families and students from the nearby university. Playgrounds provide variety for the youngest visitors, while shady paths offer coolness on hot days. On sunny weekends the park fills with people without ever feeling crowded. This relaxed, sociable atmosphere makes the Schrevenpark the green lung at the heart of the city.

Centrally located and quickly reached

The Schrevenpark lies in the district of the same name, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre and therefore ideal for a short break in between. It is conveniently reached by bus, bike or on foot, which makes it an easy local recreation destination. Spring and summer show the park at its finest, but the colourful autumn woodland is also worth a walk. A visit combines well with a stroll through the city centre or a detour towards the fjord — a green haven of calm in the middle of urban Kiel.
