Kieler Woche

Kiel's events calendar is dominated by Kieler Woche, the world's largest sailing event and at the same time a huge public festival. Every June, regattas, stage concerts and maritime markets turn the fjord into one big celebration. The highlight is the Windjammer Parade, in which historic tall ships and modern yachts sail the fjord together – a unique sight that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors. To experience Kieler Woche, expect large crowds, arrive early and plan for the best vantage points along the Kiellinie and in Laboe.

Beyond Kieler Woche, Kiel offers a lively events scene. The Kieler Umschlag, a traditional spring market harking back to Hanseatic times, fills the Old Market with stalls and a program.
