High stucco ceilings, warm wood and discreetly laid tables create a calm, almost private atmosphere in which the food takes centre stage. If you like, you can round off the evening with an aperitif on the terrace or in the hotel bar. The house suits couples and small groups in particular, looking for an undisturbed, festive evening without any rush.

A menu as a regional journey

At the heart of it is a multi-course tasting menu that follows the rhythm of the seasons. Produce from the fjord, the hedgerows and gardens of Schleswig-Holstein is staged carefully and with a clear signature, often paired with a thoughtful wine journey. Vegetarian courses are held to the same standard here. If you take your time, plan for a few hours, as the pace is deliberately unhurried. A reservation is strongly recommended, especially given the few opening days during the week and at the weekend.

Duesternbrook is considered one of Kiel's most distinguished districts, marked by villas, consulates and the nearby Kiellinie. From the restaurant it is only a short walk to the fjord shore, ideal for a stroll after the menu. The hotel is easy to reach by car, with parking available on site; from the city centre a bus or taxi brings you here in a few minutes. If you are planning a complete weekend, combine the restaurant visit with a stay in the house and a fjord walk in the morning.
