Windjammer Parade 2026
Hotels in Kiel for the Windjammer Parade
The Windjammer Parade is the maritime highlight of Kiel Week. More than a hundred tall ships, traditional vessels and yachts, led by the Gorch Fock, sail in a long parade across the Kiel Fjord.
The Windjammerparade (Windjammer Parade) is the postcard moment of Kiel Week. More than a hundred tall ships, traditional sailing vessels and yachts run the length of the Kieler Foerde in one long line, led by the German navy training ship Gorch Fock. There are very few places left in the world where you can watch that many square-riggers under sail at the same time.
Good to know before you book
- Watching from land costs nothing: the Kiellinie promenade and the shore on both sides of the fjord look straight onto the course.
- Many visitors follow the fleet from excursion boats on the fjord instead of watching from the seawall.
- The parade falls inside Kiel Week, so hotel demand for these dates is at its yearly peak.

More of Kiel while you are here
Kiel is the capital of Schleswig-Holstein and sits on a long Baltic inlet, the Kieler Foerde (Kiel Fjord). It is also the Baltic end of the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal (Kiel Canal), the busiest artificial waterway in the world, and a cruise and ferry port with terminals right in town.
