Anschar Park

From Naval Hospital to Creative Place

The Anscharpark in the Wik was created on the grounds of the former Anschar Hospital, originally built for the Imperial Navy. The red brick buildings recall Kiel's military past as an imperial naval port. After the hospital closed, the area faced decay, but a citizens' initiative preserved the listed buildings and developed them into a lively quarter. Today the Anscharpark is regarded as a successful example of how historic building stock can be preserved and filled with new life without losing its character.

Studios, Culture and Encounter

Artists' studios, cultural associations, residential projects and creative enterprises have settled in the brick buildings. Studios regularly open their doors, and exhibitions, concerts and neighbourhood festivals take place. The Anscharpark is thus not only a workplace for creatives but also a place of encounter for the neighbourhood. The quarter unfolds its special atmosphere especially on event days, when art, music and dining mingle. Its location in the Wik combines well with a visit to the nearby Seefischmarkt or a detour to the Holtenau Locks. The park is quickly reached from the city centre by bus or bicycle.
