The Seefischmarkt in the Wik district was once the central trading hub for fresh fish at Kiel's north harbour. From here the city was supplied with catch from the North Sea and Baltic. As the fishing industry changed, the classic trade lost importance, but the area reinvented itself. The Anscharpark with its creative quarter is nearby, and the Holtenau Locks on the Kiel Canal are not far either. The Wik is quickly reached from the city centre by bus or bicycle.
